bangkok-based architecture firm all(zone) has designed a temporary pavilion in thailand made from colored fabric. titled ‘marmalade sky’, the project was realized for a festival that encourages and develops creative solutions for sustainable living. offering shade to attendees, the canopy is supported by simple steel poles with portable concrete bases. several 8×8 meter fabric units are tied with cables hung loosely on the poles, lending the scheme an organic appearance.

all(zone)’s design was created for wonderfruit 2017, a four-day event held in an open area east of bangkok. the pavilion is designed to fulfill wonderfruit’s mission of creating zero footprint, portable, and reusable projects and products. developed in collaboration with taiyo tent, the waffle structure uses off-cut fabric from jim thompson, an american businessman who helped revitalize the thai silk industry in the 1950s and 1960s.

once the event is over, the pavilion leaves almost no trace of its existence. all components can be dismantled, packed, and stored where they wait to be reassembled in a new location with a different context. in january 2018, ‘marmalade sky’ was erected again at the government house of thailand during an event for children’s day.
