introducing backyard by samara
Launched by Airbnb Co-Founder Joe Gebbia and Mike McNamara, San Francisco-based company Samara aims to improve the way people live. To accomplish this, the brand has developed its first product Backyard, a flexible solar-powered dwelling unit that unlocks the potential of your courtyard and complements your main residence at the same time. Whether it’s creating space for family, building a new workspace, or having a place for the band to practice, this structure encourages you to do more and gives you the room to do it.

designed for the next chapter of your life
Built with durable, precision-engineered, and environmentally friendly materials, the Backyard unit is designed to last a lifetime. The structure is capable of harvesting enough solar energy to power itself, allowing residents to live independently. Despite its small footprint, the unit is equipped with all the appliances that the resident needs and offers maximum comfort thanks to airy cathedral ceilings, a spacious bathroom, ample storage space, and generous windows that let in plenty of natural light.
With a choice of studio or one-bedroom floor plans, five colors, two roofs, and customizable windows, doors, and patios, the Backyard can be tailored to each user’s needs. The simple, flexible floor plans were designed with a wide range of uses in mind. Pursuing a new passion, expanding your family, or creating a new source of income? Backyard can adapt and evolve with you. ‘Backyard is the little house designed for the next chapter of your life. Life evolves, and Backyard’s purpose will change with you.’ shares the team at Samara (find more here).
Backyard studio and one-bedroom units are available in Southern California and the Bay Area and begin at $289K.
