A NEW UN-BEE-LIEVABLE HOME HAS BEEN LISTED ON AIRBNB
Italian beekeeper Rocco Filomeno has listed the world’s first bee farm on Airbnb. Located in Provincia di Matera in southern Italy, and designed by Italian artist metrocubo, the buzz worthy hive invites guests to sleep surrounded by a colony of over one million bees.
‘This is the first place in the world where you can sleep immersed in the distinctive sound and aroma of the bees, experiencing ‘bee-therapy’ in the most authentic and natural way,’ said Rocco Filomeno, beekeeper and Airbnb Host.
THE AIR BEE & BEE COMPRISES A SINGLE BEDROOM SURROUNDED BY 1 MILLION WORKING BEES
The Air Bee & Bee has been constructed in Rocco’s olive farm and aims to promote awareness and respect for bees. Designed by the artist Davide Tagliabue – metrocubo in art – the project combines innovation, sustainability and slow tourism in the world of beekeeping and apitherapy. It comprises a single bedroom with two single beds, surrounded by nine apiaries that contained a combined total of 1 million working bees.
Financed through crowdfunding and built by the artist with Mariella Gentile and local volunteers, the structure cost a modest $17,000. Made entirely of fir and birchwood, the self-constructed structure by the community of Wonder Grottole has been envisioned to welcome guests and offer them all the benefits of bees — it’s known that the gentle humming sound of bees results in a soothing effect.
Last but not least, Rocco offers guests a breakfast of ricotta, strawberries, homemade biscuits and, last but not least, local honey.
