wing luke asian museum, 2008 – image © lara swimmerseattle-based olson sundberg kundig allen architects (OSKA), have been awarded 2009 firm of the year. the firm has been recognized for their residential work which brings together industrial materials within the warmth and organic state of nature. landscape is a key component of OSKA’s projects, in which many of their structures utilize materials which are often left in their raw state, keeping the focus on the surrounding environment. the firm will be awarded at the american architectural foundation’s accent on architecture gala in february.
the firm started in 1971 with partner jim olson who was joined by rick sundberg in 1975. later in 2000, tom kundig and scott allen joined the team, forming OSKA. today, the firm has more than an 85-person staff that works on a range of projects which include academic buildings, small retreats, places of worship, museums and galleries.
