AHL encloses the living areas + courtyards of 8x24 house in vietnam using a concrete shell

hanoi-based firm AHL architects has designed the 8×24 house in vietnam as an introverted living space, which opens up to nature through three main interior courtyards that bring natural light and wind within the interiors. its simple geometric façade, complete with minimal openings and an adjacent green wall, which was preserved during the construction process, ensures enough privacy for the residents and limits the effect of the western sun.all images by triệu chiến

approaching the design of the 8×24 house in the simplest, most geometric way, AHL architects has enclosed all living spaces within a concrete, rectangular shell. an adjacent green wall by the entrance, which belongs to the neighbor’s house, has been preserved during the ten-month construction period and used as an element to soften the minimalist architecture. located on the front yard, the entrance to the house can be accessed via a concrete bridge, which crosses over a long and narrow fish pond.

inside, the residence is characterized by a strong experience of space and light, as requested by the client, created through the coexistence of four living blocks and three open courtyards. the central courtyard at the core of the house, which connects the two bedrooms, offers a transit point between internal and external spaces. all living blocks are surrounded by courtyards, while the kitchen block and dining area are arranged discreetly at the end of the land on the ground floor and surrounded by two courtyards that create an airy and private atmosphere.
