east county library: early renderings revealed

Adjaye Associates shares visualizations of a newly designed library in Portland, conceived together with local firm Holst Architecture. While still in the early schematic design phase, the new East Multnomah County Library is expected to introduce approximately 95,000-square-feet of services and programming for residents of the diverse Portland suburb. This programming, together with the stacks, includes an auditorium, children’s’ and teens’ spaces, reading and computer areas, and zones dedicated to such programs as career services — all within a timber structure and surrounded by thoughtful landscaping.

The Adjaye Associates-designed library for Portland is currently in its early stages, and options are still being explored through February 2023. The renderings may be further updated with input from the community during design development which begins in March 2023 when building details and plans will be refined further.

‘I am humbled and honored to be selected as design architect for this precedent-setting library project,’ David Adjaye comments. ‘Together with Holst and MultiCultural Collaborative, we will work together and in close, continued dialogue with the local community of East County to design a lifelong learning facility that instills a sense of collective wonder and pride.’
