ADEPT blends city and sea for recreational landscape in denmark

danish architecture firm ADEPT has completed ‘vestre fjord park’, a recreational learning and experience landscape in aalborg, denmark. the park is intended to contribute to the ecological landscape of the limfjord, the country’s largest fjord landscape, offering a rich environment where water, bird life, fish, fields, beach and meadows unite with the city.

UPDATE: this project was shortlisted in the ‘sport – completed buildings’ category at the 2018 world architecture festival.

ADEPT designed the site to facilitate new active experiences related to both nature and the city. the vision behind the project was to encourage direct contact with the fjord by establishing better accessibility from land to sea. at the same time, the project aims to create a dynamic program with a multi-functional building structure that frames many potential activities. the precise cut between the two water spaces is defined by the isthmus, binding together landscape and built structure — exactly where the experiences of fjord, activities and park become one.

the project — which was completed in collaboration with landscape architecture firm GHB — is one of three nominees for the danish landscape award in 2017, and was recently listed as one of the best new buildings in aalborg.
