acpv architects celebrates groundbreaking in taiwan

ACPV ARCHITECTS Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel recently marked a major milestone with the groundbreaking of its Capella Kenting resort development in Taiwan. Commissioned by Riant Capital and Capella Hotels and Resorts, this project is located just north of Kenting National Park in Taiwan’s southernmost county. The resort embodies the Capella Hotel Group’s vision of prioritizing guest experience and fostering a strong sense of place.

The Capella Kenting resort will bring more than sixty villas and related amenities to the natural landscape of the region. The architects have designed the resort to mirror the contours and slopes of the lush green environment, optimizing views of the sea and sky. Each villa opens to panoramic views of the ocean, enhancing the organic connection with nature. Upon arrival, guests are greeted by a sunken drop-off area flooded with natural light and greenery, creating a smooth transition from the busy road to a serene, landscaped garden, reminiscent of arriving at a private home within a park.

capella kenting: secluded relaxation in nature

With its Capella King resort, the team at ACPV ARCHITECTS will offer a communion with nature, and balance between privacy and social interaction. Each villa will extend onto a private pool and terrace, allowing guests to enjoy secluded relaxation. What’s more, the resort will include shared spaces such as bars, restaurants, wedding facilities, and the signature Capella Living Room and Clubhouse, which encourage communal moments. The wellness facilities will include a spa, swimming pools, a gym, and Onsen bathhouses celebrating Japanese bathing rituals. Antonio Citterio comments:Every architectural detail is meticulously crafted to provide uninterrupted views of the water and horizon, granting guests a sense of unity with nature.’

Architect Patricia Viel, CEO and co-founder, further explains:The resort’s design draws inspiration from the rich cultural context of the location. For our first resort in Taiwan, we are integrating traditional craft and construction techniques, including low stacked-stone walls, to minimise visual impact while paying homage to aboriginal culture.’

a dialogue between architecture and landscape

With the Capella Kenting resort, ACPV ARCHITECTS will invite guests to appreciate the extraordinary biodiversity of Kenting National Park, which includes sandy beaches, dramatic rock formations, and natural plant life. The resort caters to diverse travelers, from solo vacationers and couples to families, embracing a holistic vision of guest needs and emphasizing the resort’s locality by referencing local craft and construction traditions. Patterns, textures, and geometries throughout the development echo the character of the region.

The resort’s layout is thoughtfully designed to foster a dialogue between architecture and nature. The arrival experience is marked by a sunken drop-off area flooded with natural light and greenery, leading to landscaped garden paths that evoke a sense of arriving home in a private park. Unobstructed views of the sea and sky are a central feature of the villa architecture, connecting guests organically with nature while minimizing visual disruptions to preserve the natural environment. ‘Rediscovering the essence of the site’s surroundings was paramount in designing Capella Kenting in Taiwan, says Sara Busnelli, partner at ACPV ARCHITECTS. To achieve this, we meticulously curated design details that subtly immerse guests in the landscape, celebrating a unique combination of traditional culture and nature.’

Antonio Citterio continues:The resort’s overall concept revolves around a profound interplay between the site and the sea. Every architectural detail is meticulously crafted to provide uninterrupted views of the water and horizon, granting guests a sense of unity with nature.’

Patricia Viel adds:The design of the resort is inspired by the rich cultural context of the location. We integrated traditional craft and construction techniques to emphasize the local character of the development. For example, the resort’s design integrates low walls made up of stacked stones, a part of the aboriginal culture, not only to tie the design to the location but also to minimize the visual impact on nature.’
