degree design remodeled the structure of this 40 year old apartment in tapei, ameliorating its overall flow. one of the main challenges was to illuminate the space and fill it with more natural light since there was only one source of it in the initial space. after the renovation, the designers managed to integrate three natural light sources giving the apartment a fresher look and feel.

degree design tried to expose the original beams in the open space by painting them gray, matching the façade, and making them protrude more. there is a certain charm in showing the raw beauty of an original structure and the designers wanted to integrate that.

the muted color palette chosen by the designers creates a soothing atmosphere and a pleasant visual break. it also helped bring focus on key design elements such as the cheerful wallpapers in various spots. the entire space is very minimal and not overly-decorated. contemporary furniture floats in clean spaces while open shelving is filled with books and art to grow a homey and personalized feel.

the designers integrated the main entrances of five rooms into one hallway and used secret and sliding doors in various areas to maximize space. the simple design and good flow of natural light helped realize a cozy and minimalist feel in this apartment.
