the demolition of 122 leadenhall street in london is currently attracting puzzled stares. the 1960’s building must be dismantled from the bottom up due to its unconventional construction. the floors are ‘hung’ from the roof level beam which is in turn supported by the central core. once the floors have been removed a more traditional top down demolition of the core will begin. the building is due to be replaced by richard roger’s new 225 meter skyscraper, nicknamed ‘the cheese grater’.
