waste not reversible jacket by padmaja from india
designer's own words:
The ‘ waste-not reversible jacket ’ is an outcome and part of my ongoing project/collection of clothes ‘slow.useless’.
Tiny little scraps of hand woven silk have been collected from the factory floor, assorted, ironed out and laid spontaneously to be quilted with another layer of silk through hand stitches and thereafter sewn by the machine, many hundred times to create this stunning, unusual, organic texture that cannot ever be duplicated to the exact. The jacket has a different texture on the reverse side using plain handwoven silk and is finished with grunge hemlines. Through this ongoing project (since 2006) of employing ‘slow’ processes and ‘useless’ material Padmaja has been able to successfully reuse 95% of her factory wastes to create artistic garments that are luxurious, meaningful, long lasting, sustainable and timeless.
