Foster + Partners and Arup has been chosen to design four stations along the California High-Speed Rail (CA HSR). These stations — Merced, Fresno, Kings/Tulare, and Bakersfield — will cater to high-speed rail passengers on the first 171-mile portion of the new line. Foster + Partners and Arup will collaborate on planning, architecture, and engineering for these four new stations, and will establish an example for the design of stations planned along the entire 500-mile system which will ultimately link Los Angeles to San Francisco.

 

California High-Speed Rail is currently under construction in the Central Valley. The team hopes to have the first operable line slated for completion between 2030 and 2033.

Together with the design team at Foster + Partners, Arup is employing its knowledge of the area and industry experience to design these four Central Valley stations for California’s high-speed rail. With their systemwide kit of parts, previously crafted by Foster + Partners, this team is going above and beyond to create something truly special. This joint venture is providing both management and design services as part design development phase, which will configure the footprint of each station site — a process estimated to take around thirty months. These efforts will lead to an optional second phase which includes everything from final design and construction-ready documents to actual construction.
