‘Take over’ by Andrés Reisinger

Andrés Reisinger loves pink. His homage to the whimsical hue manifests in a series of digital artworks that reimagine major cities with tactile, bouncy, fluffy — and at times hairy — flosses draping over historic architecture. The digital artist and designer presents ‘Take Over’, his anthology of virtual art installations that question what is real and not by adding hyperrealistic design elements to existing buildings. People do a double take on his artworks as they pop up on their scrolling feed, a temporary halt Reisinger imagines them to take as he pushes his agenda of blurring boundaries between digital and reality.

The artist reveals ‘Take Over’ on his social media page. It alludes to his intention to combine the physical and digital spheres. His style suggests a fresh and free interpretation of reality and virtuality interactions. The new series, which transcends geographical boundaries into the virtual plane, takes place in major international capitals all over the world such as London, Rome, Paris, Tokyo, and New York City, offering pink-carpeted curtains to please the eye and architectural clothing experiences meant to be enjoyed on screens.

infusing digital imagination into physical spaces

As soon as Andrés Reisinger released the numerous ‘Take Over’ digital artworks on his social media platforms, inquiries about addresses and exhibition hours to visit the installation in person flooded his inbox. The influx of the public’s interest in his art and technology exploration proposes that the viewers might be ready to experience a new form of art through digital means.

It has been a long-time signature of Reisinger to permeate his work with alluring confusion between physicality and abstraction, drawn from his artistic questioning about what constitutes a ‘real’ work of art. The digital artist believes that anything that forms an experience is real, whether it be in the digital or physical sphere becomes secondary.

Reisinger intentionally picked his social media pages as the platform to showcase his new series for the exact reason of democratizing art. He believes that by uploading the pink drapes and coverings over the buildings across the major cities, he is making his artworks accessible to a wide audience.

Defining the cities’ personalities

The physical spaces within the neighborhoods of different cities embrace ‘Take Over’ and its fluid installations, with each design reverberating what makes that city a staple: Paris, in refined and minimalistic silhouettes; New York, in extravagant and performative coverings; London, in layers of various diverse textures; and Tokyo, in an explosion of majestic and entertaining scenographies.

Reisinger uses the digital to build a theatrical performance where the streets themselves become protagonists of a new play. From the pastel pink and wavy forms of the curtains to the surrealist environments, ‘Take Over’ nods to Reisinger’s affection for dreamlike and surrealist imagery. The images can be rifled through on the digital artist’s social media feeds.
