Villa Domes by Calujac Architecture

Within the rural landscape of a small holiday village near Chisinau, Moldova, Calujac Architecture has designed a family house with a striking undulating concrete entrance. The front facade of ‘Villa Domes’, which appears like a floating volume, is complemented by the corten steel cladding and expansive glazing that finish the exterior. A green garden and a recreational area complete the residential project, allowing occupants to enjoy and connect with the peaceful natural environment.

The central element of Villa Domes is its eye-catching entrance. The floating volume of the concrete portal does not only have an aesthetic purpose, but also a constructive function, as it provides overall rigidity and softens the metal frame of the house. The sculptural form of the concrete emphasizes the conciseness of the design solution and the simplicity of the corten steel facade. The domes – designed as pyramid stumps on the roof – play a crucial role in the three-dimensional solution. They serve as lanterns of light, showing the rhythm and solidity of the structure and creating a voluminous, bright space inside.

Calujac Architecture (find more here) designed this home for a family of four, incorporating a spacious recreational area and green zone. The leisure area includes a terrace, a pool, and a fireplace. Thanks to the large windows, this space is visually connected with the living room. The green area has the form of a large garden, in the shade of which children can comfortably play in the summer, and which ‘penetrates’ through the windows into the interior of the house and becomes an integral part of the interior.
