ISSEY MIYAKE GINZA opens in tokyo
A new Issey Miyake space has opened in Ginza, Tokyo, boasting a vibrant and clean-cut design with futuristic accents. Designed by Tokujin Yoshioka, the four-story retail store is inspired by the sophistication and playfulness of the Ginza district while nodding to the brand’s forward-thinking philosophy and style. Inside, massive aluminum panels weave across a minimalist and all-white backdrop and double as a supporting display for Issey Miyake products, with the hope of creating a more intimate relationship between the clothes and those who wear them.

a minimalist store + gallery endowed with futuristic tones
Titled ISSEY MIYAKE GINZA / 442, the new retail building by Tokujin Yoshioka (see more here) sits close to the brand’s existing store, now renamed ISSEY MIYAKE GINZA / 445 and home to a new gallery, CUBE. In addition to Issey Miyake products — the gallery showcases works and processes related to design, art, and craftsmanship. The first exhibition to be hosted at CUBE will be IKKO TANAKA ISSEY MIYAKE n.6 — a selection of graphic design works by Ikko Tanaka.
Elaborating on his vision for the exclusive ISSEY MIYAKE GINZA, Tokujin Yoshioka writes: ‘The clothes seem to float in the air thanks to an aluminum strip puncturing the space. This futuristic design represents Issey Miyake’s innovative approach to and philosophy around clothing. Thanks to a special technique, the retail store includes elements made from sustainable and recycled aluminum, thus turning the store into a minimalist space with educational and futuristic qualities.’
