a minimalistic living environment by Poot Architectuur

Nestled in a quiet street in Belgium with almost identical red brick-clad houses from the 50s and 60s, ‘Saint Benedict’ is a calm dwelling defined by its rare bay window. Designed by Poot Architectuur, the bright-lit interior introduces a visual play between curves and lines while unfolding around a central oval staircase. The project generates an off-white serene living environment that exudes a minimalistic character and provides a feeling of continuity. Upon entering the house, occupants come across the stairway while the curvature of the wall naturally leads to a slightly sunken space that forms the central living room. Wrapped in green velvet flooring, this cozy niche adds a splash of color to the otherwise muted furnishings and walls.poot architectuur infuses delicate lines & curves inside minimal house in belgium

avoiding excess decoration

The minimalistic dwelling designed by Poot Architectuur (see more here) is spread over two levels and organized in a plan that extends around the central oval staircase. The curving wall, along with changes in material and flooring heights, define separate spaces throughout the house. However, the kitchen and the dining area share the same flooring, creating a continuous layout framed by the curved wall. The double-height kitchen, which contains a wide opening overlooking the street side, gives the house a large dimension and ensures connection between the different living areas. On the other hand, on the upper floor, which hosts the sleeping areas and an additional study room, the emphasis is on seclusion and silence. When it comes to the color palette, the interior is pared-back in muted hues that enhance gentle flow and continuity throughout the spaces. On an aesthetic level, the spaces show a reduction to the essentials, creating simplicity that is evoked in quiet colors and various material surfaces.
