San Diego-based Poseidon Amphibworks Corporation has launched a crowdfunding campaign to develop a unique family of street-legal amphibious electric vehicles. This line of next-generation small to mid-size vessels will cover a range of applications and markets from recreation and adventure, to personal and commercial transportation, to search and rescue. The first anticipated model is the ‘Trident LS -1,’ a patent-pending, three-wheeled electric amphibious vehicle designed to be more efficient in all aspects than current electric boats.

why choose an amphibious vehicle?

The new product line from Poseidon Amphibworks (find more here) is designed to fill a void in the market created by fossil fuel vehicles no longer being sold in the United States. In addition, sea levels are predicted to rise 1 to 8 feet by 2100, with some saying that it could be as early as 2030. Flooding is occurring more frequently and in places that have not flooded in the past. As wetlands increase, vehicle owners are looking for solutions.

An amphibious vehicle could become a lifesaver if something unexpected happens. However, the vehicles currently on the market offer suboptimal performance on the water and are only certified for off-road use.

The Trident LS -1 (short for ‘Land and Sea’) is an amphibious three-wheeler that is fully electric and features hydrofoil-enhanced technology that provides a smooth ride over the water. It is being developed as an affordable, electric amphibious vehicle to optimize efficiency on both land and water. Currently, the company is in the pre-prototype phase and seeking to develop prototypes through crowdfunding. Their vehicle has the potential to create a paradigm shift for transportation, recreation, business, and government applications.
