German company Naturawall installs flowers and plants into its noise-protecting walls to block external noises such as traffic and construction sounds. The wall is available for public, private, and commercial use and has a sound-insulation value of up to 67 dB. Naturawall is a wall construction that can be easily put together, consisting of a durable, galvanized steel sheet that, when filled with soil, gains a lot of mass used to block and absorb noise. A climate-change response, the system can be planted with local and typical plants while usual garden plants and the cultivation of vegetables are also possible.

The company says that intricate foundations are not necessary for the construction of the noise barrier. The main requirements are to have a leveled ground. After the installation of the noise-protection wall, a species-rich biotope develops within a short time, offering doubled absorption of noise, wind, and dirt. Before installing the wall, the company says it can offer advice to those who want it in their space. The system also offers extra advantages, as the company puts it, since Naturawall is recyclable, requires up to 80 percent less space than a conventional wall, and does not require expensive investments in foundations and ground anchoring.

The company, whose name shares its product’s title, says its wall can win over clients with its high sound absorption values comparable with a 50cm thick concrete wall, its visuals that resembles a green hedge, and quick installation times. With its protective coating, Naturawall’s material, which is galvanized steel, is completely resistant to extreme weather conditions and weathering, giving the construction a long lifespan. The wall brims with vegetation-supporting soil material and natural growth of greenery, which is subsequently planted on a step-by-step basis. 98.5% of the wall system is sourced from natural, recyclable material, paving a way for a green sound-protection approach.
