Dutch startup SØDE Design has recently launched a collection of multifunctional pet furniture for the modern cat. Made with sustainability in mind, the collection helps maintain Scandinavian elegance in any home and offers alternatives to generic cat products. ‘[This is] the first company to be operating at the intersection of pet, interior, and sustainability, developing stylish furniture & accessories in a Scandinavian design, for both the cat and cat parents,’ explains the team.
ORIGAMEOW and PAWTY ROPE

The first piece in SØDE Design’s collection (see more here) is the ORIGAMEOW — a hideaway/scratching post/play space for cats that doubles as a bar stool for humans. It is composed of premium recycled cardboard, sustainably sourced wood, and Oeko-Tex certified fabrics.
FLOWER PAWER, meanwhile, is a wall-mounted cat scratcher with a built-in planting pot on top. SØDE Design built this product using recycled cardboard, eco-certified wood, and Portuguese cork, offering it an elegant and natural look. It can also be mounted at any height, pushing cats to get a nice stretch while scratching.

Completing the collection is the PAWTY ROPE, designed as a handwoven and colorful toy made from recycled industrial waste that is durable and safe for cats to play with. The rope can also be hung on the FLOWER PAWER for extra fun. Overall, ‘the furniture is made of high-quality materials […] with care and respect for people, cats, and the environment,’ shares the team.

sustainable materials, eco-friendly practices
All products were handmade in Portugal, where renewable energy and good working conditions underpin the manufacturing process. Even more, FLOWER PAWER and ORIGAMEOW come in a convertible shipping box that, once unpacked, can turn into a cat playhouse. ‘At SØDE Design, sustainability is crucial, and we are the first to create furniture designs different from what is currently available,’ says founder Carole Picou-Katmann.
SØDE Design is crowdfunding to raise €23,000 on Kickstarter until May 5th, 2022. Perks include a discounted Early Bird FLOWER PAWER for €169, saving €80 off retail with delivery by October 2022.
