ressence unveils modern, minimal type 8 timepiece with domed dial

ressence type 8 debuts minimal yet high performance watch

ressence is on a mission to modernize fine watchmaking. the belgian brand, founded in 2010, aims to make the experience of time better. as ressence looks towards the future, their watches revel in sleek, eye-catching designs paired with technological innovations. patented mechanisms marvel, impressing not only with modern performances but also modern aesthetics. the type 8 visually and functionally expresses a lean, young and agile character, as it premieres on march 24 ahead of the world debut at watches & wonders in geneva, switzerland from march 30 to april 5, 2022.

although only established in 2010, ressence has formed a rich legacy. the type 8 is the new entry-level model to the brand, who have already released five other distinct families of watches. each collection is built on similar founding principles of originality and innovation. these aspirations for design is further guided by a need for clarity, simplicity and ergonomics. as exemplified with the type 8, the result guarantees modern excellence.

modern aesthetic meets mechanical marvel

the new watch is modern, minimal and sleek in its aesthetic. a hyper-modern case defines a deceptively simple, lean silhouette that is the most minimal of all ressence creations. it is tapered with a sandwich-style construction in a two tone finish, both polished and satin in finishing textures. its lugs are hidden from view behind a small skirt that extends from the rounded body. the result is a seamless, pure volume that sprouts a blue leather strap.

crafted entirely from grade five titanium, the 42.9mm egg-shell-shaped case weights just 42g with the strap included. its high specific stretch delivers rigidity without compromising weight or aesthetic. there is no visible crown as to not designate the watch as left- or right-handed. instead, the rotation of the case back winds the mechanical movement to set the time. the ambidextrous nature of the design ensures its is comfortable for all users.

the watch’s minimal character continues for its clear timekeeping too. the dial, coated in cobalt blue, is graphically simplified to indicate the white baton markers of the hours and minutes with no text or numbers. the only additional detail is the ressence logo sitting at 12 o’clock. in similar style to the brand’s other models, the main dial is a domed piece of titanium that rotates to indicate the minutes. a small dial, set of the same plane, sits within the dome to also revolve to mark the hours. both are coated in blue superluminova for low-light legibility.

the rotating dial is the visible face of ressence’s patented mechanical ingenuity. called ressence orbital convex system (ROCS), the mechanical marvel was designed using a series of jewel ball bearings to ensure long-lasting, oil-free running. the module, tailored for the type 8, is powered by a traditional mechanical automatic movement based on an ETA calibre 2892/2 with a 36-hour power reserve.
