tree pot set

modus design (edyta cieloch and mariek cecula), which operates out of new york and poland, has designed a new ceramic tableware collection called ‘natura’.

the series is based on the textures natural elements like trees, stone and earth which have been imprinted directly onto the ceramic objects. they chose not to invent the form of the object, but become a mediator between naturally existing elements and utility.

here, the designer becomes the observer who selects from a range of resources from nature – parts and shapes – that can be translated into functional pieces with minimal intervention from the maker. modus design’s intention is to introduce nature into the domestic environment. on a dining table, the textured forms become a reminder, a reference point of the natural world, and how we have become accustomed to man made aesthetics, refining the shapes which form our utilitarian world.
