french visual artist cyril lancelin introduces ‘house bitcoins’, a structure concept built right on the line between reality and the digital world. turning the abstract cryptocurrency of bitcoin into a symbolic form and structural element, the french creative has formed a house that opens widely to its surroundings, thanks to its rotating coin facade. through this thought-provoking project, lancelin invites viewers to contemplate whether new financial opportunities will bring new ideas in house design.

highlighting the marriage between reality and the digital world

cyril lancelin has always been fascinated by the border between reality and the digital realm, which allows us to dream up the impossible.  in ‘house bitcoins’, the artist highlights the marriage between the two worlds, using the most abstract currency and representing it through a realized form. 

‘cryptocurrency is coming from the abstract world, but it is a great opportunity to finance some digital architectural projects to become part of the real world,’ lancelin says. ‘house bitcoins is part of this journey. it is on the path, starting as a digital idea coming from the metaverse, but ready to be built with traditional material, to make it a unique experience of this transitory time we are now in.’

the house is based on a grid, on which the large bitcoins work as structural elements and as partitions. adopting an open character, the structure incorporates a rotating coin facade, opening towards the surrounding environment. in addition, the movement of the coins infuses the house with vitality.
