‘venere divina. armonia sulla terra’ at fondazione palazzo te

from april 26th to december 12th 2021, fondazione palazzo te in mantova, italy, hosted an exhibition dedicated to the goddess venus and her mythology. inside the 16th century palazzo, the exhibition took visitors on a three-part journey exploring the myth of venus from antiquity to modern times. designing this journey was lissoni & partners, who curated the fitout at fondazione palazzo te for the third year in a row.

the design team wanted the works to speak for themselves while also affording visitors a clear interpretation and perception of the palazzo spaces. to achieve this, lissoni & partners inserted simple dark green volumes to disengage from the historical building. the strong green hue was selected to express emotion and establish a close connection to the curatorial nature of the project.

THE V OF VENUS

lissoni graphx was responsible for the graphic design project of the exhibition, including the posters and communication material and the guide to the representations of venus in the exhibition at palazzo te curated by claudia cieri via, a leading international expert in iconography).

the V of venus was used to define all the visual communications, a majestic monogram characterized by a serif font that is both forceful and decisive and which combines sinuous curves with fragmented lines, conveying the sensual and complex aspects of her character that are brought to the fore in the third part of the exhibition. as one stage gives way to the next, so the works chosen to depict the figure of venus change to reflect this.
