tiananmen square massacre, 1989

google inc has announced it will no longer censor search results in china. the move comes after the company discovered computer hackers who had specifically targeted the gmail accounts of human rights activists.

google did not specifically accuse the chinese government. but the company added that it is ‘no longer willing to continue censoring our results’ on its chinese search engine, as the government requires.

in january 2006 google entered the chinese market, agreeing to censor some results some of which included not showing images of the tiananmen square massacre, the dalai lama etc.

these are just a few images we have found when using google china’s search today.
