PPAA SHARES ITS LATEST RESIDENTIAL PROJECT IN MEXICO

pérez palacios arquitectos asociados (PPAA) has designed a single family home named ‘monte tauro’ in a residential area of mexico city. the residence occupies a rectangular 30×20 meter plot with neighbors on three sides and a street to the north.

the mexico-based architects organized the 645 sqm program into three volumes around a large internal courtyard, offering residents a private haven to relax in.

THREE DISTINCT VOLUMES ARTICULATE DIFFERENT FUNCTIONS

the three volumes are arranged based on three circulation axes on the first floor, dividing the public axis, the service axis, and a bedroom block. each block contains a particular function and is designed by PPAA to reflect this. the long, slim volume on the western edge comprises the private functions, including a palatial master bedroom suite complete with dressing room and bathroom.

the two storey block to the northern portion of the site contains the kitchen and laundry room as well as a smaller bedroom suite on the second floor. the architects also planned a basement level that features a three-car garage, chauffer’s room, gym, and wine cellar.

the main access to the house

the L-shape generated by the service and bedroom blocks encloses the main public area of the house, which hosts the living room, the covered terrace, and the garden space. this part of the dwelling is made distinct by an exposed wooden structure that creates a degree of lightness and openness when compared with the cast concrete volumes that make up the rest of the house.

together, the concrete and wood create a welcome contrast but also perfectly complement one another thanks to the timber formwork texture of the concrete. the interiors are light and contemporary but the addition of antique wooden furniture and old paintings give monte tauro a warm, family atmosphere.
