the ‘yer-fan’ was designed by friso dijkstra of dutch studiofriso for the 2012 istanbul biennial. presented at mavra café, the opium-flower form made of ‘cooling-ribs’ is constructed out of 158 aluminium pieces and then powdercoated. the two pieces that form the fan’s body are bolted together and rests on the floor. two small feet hold the fan in place and prevent it from rolling around.

 the result is a single position floor-fan.

together with textile designer borre akkersdijk, the ‘yer’ (meaning place, ground or floor) project was influenced by traditional seating places and teahouses where people would sit close to the floor. akkersdijk then used his unique textile process to create an actual mattress for sitting.
