MERCEDES’ MILITARY SPEC G-CLASS GETS AN UPDATE

german automotive company mercedes-benz has revealed its new G-class W464 military edition SUV. the revised off-roader maintains its original boxy look from 1979 but offers improved performance for military use or search and rescue operations. 

the updated G-class is equipped with a nine-speed automatic transmission and a 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine that provides 245 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. the sturdy ladder-type frame also carries the rigid axles at the front and rear for optimum off-roading. other features include its high ground clearance, impressive lean angle and gradeability.

reliable even in the most extreme situations

the W464 features engine cooling for hot climates, improved corrosion protection, and a new track width for better performance with snow chains. the vehicle also boasts the highest payload in its class, glove-compatible controls, LED lighting, an emergency override switch (EOS), and a 24 V onboard power supply.

the W464 comes in two versions — the station wagon (BA06) or a two-door cab (BA09). the four-seater station wagon has a permissible gross weight of 3.5 tonnes, 1.0 tonne is available for payload. of this, up to 200 kilograms can be carried on the roof. the cutaway two-door cab version offers a permissible gross weight of 4.9 tonnes, allowing a payload of 2.5 tonnes.
