a minimalist campervan made of natural materials

 

french design atelier serge propose has converted a mercedes vito into a minimalist campervan with a warm, cocoon-like character. despite its small size, the van supports a variety of functions, including a sleeping and lounge area, a kitchen, and ample storage space. the designers have put emphasis on using natural materials as much as possible, with the transformation mainly using birch plywood. in addition, the entire insulation is made using hemp wool and projected cork.

promoting a nomadic way of life

 

the goal of the conversion by serge propose is to provide a living environment that corresponds to a nomadic way of life . the limited vehicle interior size accommodates multiple uses, due to an arrangement of adaptable design solutions. the bench area can become a large bed of 130 by 200 cm. lots of storage space is located under the benches. a kitchen area is built at the rear of the vehicle. this unusual position allows to use it while being protected under the tailgate. a side unit furniture hides more storage and a folding table.

 

the camper includes numerous technical features, even though the designers have made quite an effort to conceal them. in fact, the van is fully autonomous thanks to an auxiliary battery, a DC charger and a converter. all electric equipment is from victron energy to ensure a persistent installation, and a stationary heater is located under the chassis. furthermore, there is a fridge and a dry toilet situated under the longest bench of the interior. the tailor-made approach extends to every detail: the mattress covers, the curtains, and their bindings, the latches, the removable stove, the stove support, the LED spots, etc.
