Data Systems Plaza by damien gilley from usa
designer's own words:
data systems plaza appropriates and transforms the brutalist gallery into a temporary showroom exhibiting sculptural experiences from a fictitious company. within a meandering architectural framework, the works allure the viewer with controlled visual spectacles while rendering the experience of materiality ambiguous. the works contain qualities that are both humorous and futuristic, a critique of techno-infatuation with references varying from interstellar travel, dystopian structures, and perceptual illusions. the works in the project used both precision digital output and hand fabrication, often presented in the company of hand cut vinyl designs on the wall. included in these processes were cnc routing of polypanel (a hard plastic core sheet with thin aluminum sheeting, like dibond), laser-cut aluminum and steel, custom formed aluminum and steel brackets, and precision welded aluminum for the stair handrail.
