leckie studio takes to bjarke ingels group‘s recently completed vancouver house to curate a design-minded penthouse interior. the two-bedroom residence expresses a bespoke, biophilic atmosphere and exhibits the client’s collection of art and natural artifacts. positioned on the tower’s northwest side, the two-story unit features expansive views of english bay and the north shore mountains, which the designers hoped to weave into a layered and balanced environment that looked both inward ands much as it did outward. the unit occupies BIG’s now iconic vancouver house, defined by its twisting profile which gradually grows upward from its triangular base into a rectangular geometry that rises as one of the tallest buildings above downtown vancouver.

leckie studio worked closely with the client, informed by her penchant for travel, to transform the vancouver house interior into a warm and minimalist environment. spanning two levels, the interior spaces of the bjarke ingels group-designed penthouse are sequenced to maximizes views and quality of light. flooded with natural morning sunlight, the second-floor master suite opens broadly outward toward sweeping views of the water surrounding. linking the two levels is a half-turn open stair activated by a copper-laced bocci lighting installation made up of hand-selected glass pieces which echo the image of fireflies. to the first level of the penthouse, the kitchen, dining, and living spaces face the city, illuminated after sunset.

the vancouver house penthouse interior is designed by leckie studio with a subdued material palette. this strategy serves to establish a rich, organic background for the client’s display of art and artifacts from her travels. some spaces look onto a lush, glass-walled atrium. this interior garden marks a central spine for the residence, projecting through the second floor and onto to the unit’s roof terrace. expressing a microcosm of the forested pacific northwest, the terrarium hosts a full-size red cedar tree.
