sit next to your reflection with byungsub kim's 'be alone to be two' chair design

korean designer byungsub kim introduces his new chair design, titled ‘be alone to be two’. deeply influenced by the post-pandemic reality we’re currently living in, as well as the concept of social distancing, the product takes shape as a single chair that becomes two, thanks to an integrated mirror.

the design by byungsub kim is made with stainless steel and a mirror surface that reflects the other half of the bench. apart from the chair, the user who sits alone visually duplicates too. in this way, the project seeks to encourage voluntary, active participation in social distancing, and express that you have to be alone for a while in order to return to the world of living together. 

‘sitting on the bench alone completes the bench where two people sit with themselves reflected in the mirror,’ explains the designer. ‘just as two people seem to be sitting alone, we can all be together again through social distancing.’
