designer's own words:

sight is my primal sense. and being a passionate photographer, i appreciate the beauty of things basically for the joy of looking at them. so, i feel very attracted by pretty much any piece of good design as well, may that be graphic design, logo design, industrial design, typography or whatever. i got to know about the moleskinerie logo design contest pretty much by accident, but have been sparked by the task right from the beginning. reason for that is the fact that i see moleskine books as some of the most iconic design works of our time. and through my contest entry (the first one ever) i hope to be able to share and show that.
thinking of how the logo for the moleskinerie blog might look like, the answer for me was not a hard one to give. since the iconic "moleskine"-font is a key part of the whole design and thus of the whole story and heritage of moleskine, it is easily recognizable and should thus be the basis of any logo. a second key design attribute of each moleskine book (and probably the most important one for the book itself) is the banderole, which is wrapped around each book and comes in a certain color each. that banderole literally adds color to the book and turns it into that timeless item being. so for me the banderoles should be included into the logo as well and function as a "blur of color". the third part of the logo is also based on one important feature of every moleskine, speaking of the ribbon that seperates the pages. i used that as some sort of an attachment to one of the letters in order to ease the straightforward character of the design a bit. last not least, integrating the slogan of the moleskinerie blog itself into the whole logo sis supposed to make clear what this is all about: legends and stories.
so, the result hopefully reflects my intention of creating a simple yet elegant and recognizable design for the moleskinerie blog. by replacing the color of each banderole and of the ribbon by the color white (or by making it transparent), the whole logo will also be usable in a b/w version. the entire design has been created by using photoshop and indesign.
