schemata architects completes 'descente blanc' store in sapporo with movable hanger system

schemata architects has completed the smallest among all the previous ‘descente blanc’ stores (see earlier examples here and here), developed as a shop-in-shop at ‘stellar place’, a shopping mall in sapporo, japan. the design takes advantage of the relatively wide storefront to display merchandize via a vertically movable hanger bar system that characterizes the retail identity of the brand. a vertically movable store sign – the first of its kind used at the ‘descente blanc’ stores – completes the space along with a cash register counter in wood.all images by kenta hasegawa

the movable hanger bar system, situated perpendicular to the storefront, becomes the focal point of the ‘descente blanc’ shop-in-shop at stellar place in sapporo. schemata architects kept the rest of the space relatively simple, with white-hued walls and concrete flooring. the project is the smallest among all the ‘descente blanc’ stores, measuring 54.55 sqm.

a stockroom and a fitting room are located at the back of the space, concealed behind the curtains, which are made of tarpaulin and steel frames. the entire space takes its cues from the aesthetics of a construction site, with exposed ceilings and raw materials. a cash register counter is placed at one end of the store, along with a vertically movable store sign – the first of its kind used at the ‘descente blanc’ stores.
