located in indiana’s lakefront community of ogden dunes, this house by frank lloyd wright is up for sale for $1.2 million american dollars. spanning over 3,696 square feet, the dune house (also known as the armstrong house) features 2 stories with four bedrooms and four bathrooms, all surrounded by landscaped, wooded lots.

the dune house by frank lloyd wright was conceived in 1939 when andrew and florence armstrong asked the architect to design their new family home following his usonian mindset. this meant that the home should be cost-effective, efficient and affordable for middle-class families. compared to other usonian homes, the armstrong dune house is relatively small but features many of wright’s trademarks: obtuse angles both inside and outside and finger-jointed brick corners.

the modular multi-level layout places the carport on the lower level, the common living areas on the middle level, and the bedroom on the upper one. like with many of his houses, wright also hid the entrance, adding to the discovery nature of the architecture.

in the 1960s, and following many owners, pat and john peterson bought the house and hired architect john howe to do some reformations. the architect worked mostly to resolve issues encountered by previous owners like bad insulation and heating problems, while expanding the kitchen and adding a new screened-in porch.
