D.LIM architects completes small 'doksan' library with skylights in seoul, south korea

architecture firm D.LIM architects has introduced the doksan library situated in the geumcheon district of seoul, in south korea. the small library generates a comfortable, peaceful environment, with a spacious central atrium, and sixteen skylights illuminating the interior with natural sunlight.

in the doksan library, d.lim architects has incorporated large windows that offer generous views, towards the surrounding forest. the ground floor has been formed as a pleasant, bright area, with sixteen skylights piercing the ceiling, placed strategically right above the reading tables. meanwhile, a series of prominent square frames, with indirect lighting, are installed to softly illuminate the tables in the evening. 

from the lobby, visitors are led to the second floor through a wide-set staircase with an adjacent bookcase. small personal spaces are installed alongside each of the windows on the second floor, where one can sit and read with privacy. these spaces – both dark and bright, full and empty, compact and open, each finished in tones of dark grey or luminous white – partition this library into a composition of binary oppositions.
