takuya aramata has introduced a new chair design, that can turn any corner into a functional seating spot. adopting a bright, graphic aesthetic approach, the new product, which can serve both as a seat but also as a decorative element, ultimately challenges and reconsiders the idea of ‘comfort’.

for this project, takuya aramata’s has drawn influence from a personal experience. ‘one day, when i went to my friend’s house, he was sitting on the floor in front of the bed. when I saw it, I realized that people seek comfort in a fixed place within space.’ the designer shares. according to aramata, this desire seems to originate from each person’s psychology, and it appears in both public and private settings. ‘each person will have a chair in the house where they always sit, a specific seat on the train, a favorite bench in the park, and so on’ he explains.

focusing on such universal and primitive instincts of human beings, the design reconsiders ‘comfort’, while also addressing the issue of economic and spatial efficiency. optimizing its volume and surface to a minimum, aramata’s chair can be installed at any corner to provide a functional seat. when the environment does not feature a corner area, the product functions as a graphic decorative element, bringing a fresh touch into today’s dull urban scene.
