made from a combination of concrete, metal, wood, marble, and glass, this house in bolivia is a simple, linear volume that measures 54 meters (177 feet) in length. designed by architecture firm sommet, and photographed by cristóbal palma, the residence is located within a gated community near santa cruz, bolivia’s largest city. titled ‘casa 54’, the single story dwelling is elevated above the ground with an opaque elevation ensuring privacy at the front of the house.

this concrete façade hides an interior garden, which remains visible from every part of the home, enhancing occupants’ relationship with nature. above, a concrete pergola follows the rhythm of the structure and casts a play of shadow throughout the house. meanwhile, at the rear of the property, floor-to-ceiling glazing allows indoor living areas to spill out into the garden. ‘the dialogue between interior and exterior was key on the design of this house,’ sommet explains.

a single corridor, which runs the entire length of the scheme, connects each area of the building. the home’s shared living spaces, the kitchen and lounge, are articulated around the outdoor dining area at one end of the property, while three generously sized bedrooms are found at the other end of the home. all of these spaces overlook the large garden at the rear of the site, which has two terraces and a pool.

although the house is predominantly made from concrete, it is complemented by other long-lasting materials that offer a more natural aesthetic. metal cladding has been used to separate various volumes, while the main corridor is lined with warm wooded walls. elsewhere, marble has been used on the floor as well as the counters and wall finishes in the bathrooms. finally, floor-to-ceiling glazing blurs the boundary between the interior and exterior space. see other projects photographed by cristóbal palma on designboom here.
