SynVillan is an elevated, mirrored villa at scandinavia's largest safari park

this mirrored villa at scandinavia’s largest safari park allows guests to get up close and personal with wildlife. elevated three meters above the ground, ‘SynVillan’ is located in south-east sweden and lets visitors sleep securely surrounded by wild animals. the project has been designed by architect thomas sandell of sandellsandberg, whose scheme is inspired by the region’s traditional residential architecture. the roof is made from reeds, while the walls are covered with a polished patterned steel plate.

SynVillan, a name which translates as ‘optical illusion’, is located at eriksberg in blekinge — a hotel and nature reserve. eriksberg has buildings spanning five centuries that now house a hotel with luxury accommodation, restaurants, conference facilities, a wine cellar, and a farm shop that sells the venue’s own game products and souvenirs. within this context, thomas sandell’s design appears as a mirage atop a two billion-year-old rock on the shores of the baltic sea.

from an elevated terrace, and through a glass panel in the floor, visitors have the chance to see european bison, red deer, fallow deer, davis deer, mouflon sheep, and wild boar that roam freely together in the fenced nature reserve. the unit is powered by solar energy and gas and, as there is no running water, an incineration toilet is provided. prices at SynVillan (for 2 guests) start from £360/$480 USD per night.
