Lacuna by hsin hua yu from uk
designer's own words:
the idea of pausing before entering is inspired by how oftentimes people tend to hesitate in front of doors, uncertain of what is waiting behind those blockades. maybe positive or negative. to me, handles are alerts that reminds one to decide wether to enter or not.
during my research, after several tests on different handles, i noticed the space created within the grip of index finger and thumb. the area where most force exerts while opening a door. this space is best filled in order for the human hand to feel security and comfort. thus during sketching stage, most of my ideas evolved around form of a cone. then linking it back to the concept of 'a pause in space', where the iconic comma sign is portrayed, lacuna ended in an futuristic and organic form.
lacuna is made of stainless steel by the process of metal casting.
