"pacis" door handle design by joanne jin and terry park by joanne jin from canada

designer's own words:

we designed our door handle with minimalistic aesthetic in mind. the straightforward lines, polished surfaces, and clean, uncluttered forms create a sense of sophistication. we wanted to utilize wood and metal in a harmonic way while promoting healthier material choices. most consumers have misconceptions about wood to more likely contain bacteria than metal or plastic; but wood has a natural antibacterial property unlike metal and plastic, which tend to be a site for bacterial growth.

the lever of the door handle is made of wood supported by a metal piece in the back and at the end of the lever. every part of the door handle is covered with nanotechnology anti-bacterial coating that hospitals use to stop the spreading of germs. the metal is made with brass with chrome finishing (also available in brushed stainless steel) and the wood is available in various types of wood from teak, cherry, oak, walnut, ash, sungkai, and maple wood. we also liked the idea of using wood throughout the handle because it does not conduct to cold temperatures like metal; therefore, wood was the appropriate solution. we wanted to provide the users with the most pleasant experience utilizing our door handle visually and functionally.
