poetry of senses by umar jamshaid from pakistan
designer's own words:
what is that makes poetry, poetic? it is the duality and the ambiguity, something you can relate yourself to! in design, we usually tend to design objects for mere visual seduction,i-e, we work in one layer. the more layers we apply on a certain design, in the design process, the more information we embed into it and thus, it starts gaining duality and ambiguity.its then we start experiencing the object on the whole, not in isolated senses. because of the embedded information, the designed object becomes a referential event which can be appropriated by others-it becomes poetic!
careful study was done to calculate the comfortable human grip and was documented using clay as it is a medium which was found very sensitive towards pressure applied by human palm and fingers. after the documentation in clay, it was made permanent by baking the clay model in the kiln. then, using the mould and cast technique, a cast was obtained in plaster so that it could be worked on. step by step using sand paper and carving tools, the aesthetic , functional, inspirational and social layers were added and the form was carved to a door handle.
