barkow leibinger's 'revolutions of choice' exhibition opens in berlin

an exhibition dedicated to the work of american/german architectural practice barkow leibinger has opened in berlin. on view at the haus am waldsee until october 4, 2020, ‘revolutions of choice’ is a retrospective exhibit that presents more than 25 years of work demonstrating the practice’s dedication to material exploration and the tools and instruments for transforming that into architecture.

on display is a a wealth of material studies, models, and installations from barkow leibinger’s archive as well as new work. the exhibition at haus am waldsee spans two floors and extends into the adjoining sculpture park where the firm’s ‘summer house’ from 2016 is presented with a new reflective aluminum cladding. elsewhere, at the main entrance in front of the villa, visitors encounter a passage made of two concrete walls cast in sand and rock. titled ‘two walls’, the piece is a spatial and physical experience that introduces the firm’s work.

frank barkow and regine leibinger both studied at harvard university before they founded their architectural partnership in berlin in 1993. the firm also has an office in new york. recent projects completed by barkow leibinger include a cross-curriculum space for the arts and a renovated reception area for a theater in berlin. see more projects by the studio on designboom here.
