crack the handle

crack the handle by Nikolaos Karintzaidis from greece

designer's own words:

The idea is to transform the rotational movement of a handle into a “crack”.

When the handle remains unused it has a solid form, minimizing the aesthetic complexity.

User’s interaction shapes the handle, by demonstrating the idea of the bending force that exerts on the overall shape.

Simplicity of shape is attained by the interlocking of different parts.

The door pull draws inspiration from traditional door knockers which also function as handles.
Combination of different functions results in simplicity of form.

Considering the simple shape of the basic structural units, minimization of production cost is attained, as well as ideal conditions for mechanized mass production.

Construction logic aims in economy, not only in production process but also a visual one, giving a contemporary appearance to the handle.

Adaptation to the philosophy of COLOMBO DESIGN is taken into account, in order to make this item complementary of the company’s production line.
