the zuri door handle

the zuri door handle by adrienne viljoen from new zealand

designer's own words:

the design's inspiration comes from the simplicity and elegance in modern contemporary architecture. when designing the handle there was always the idea that the handle would be used in professional or modernist environments. the handle has simple clean lines with the exception of the curve that leaves and returns to the door, creating an intuitive placement for the hand when the door handle is in use for those few crucial moments.

the main influence for the design was the ergonomics when the handle is in use. The development is shown on the proof of concept page in the top left hand corner. the handle was very angular, but I decided to soften it. the rose plate and key hole are designed to compliment the handle.

the finish on the door handle is a matte brushed steel. this is represented by the model I made, pictured in the bottom left corner on the proof of concept page. the model was finished using a silver patina. The top right hand corner shows my initial reaction to the brief as well as the development through cad.

zuri is swahili for nice or simple.
