strip

strip by pugachev oleg from germany

designer's own words:

the aim was to design a simple and elegant door handle suitable in the context of contemporary architecture, thus tending to be a universal one, such as classic wittgenstein's handle, rather than an ergonomic sculpture, yet with a little twist.
the handle appears to be a bent strip of metal. starting with this abstract, technical shape it was finely molded to fit the human hand comfortably. modelmaking was helpful for finding and tuning the final shape. As a result the door handle features carefully detailed proportions, rounded edges, appropriate volume and profile as well as width and inner radius, which allows the thumb and the forefinger to grip safely and to conduct the rotating movement of the hand. a slight bend prevents the hand from sliding down. the connection between the handle and the rose shows remarkable detail, not only in aesthetic but also in practical terms. the hand is placed far away from the pivot point to avoid the thumb being caught in the door, especially if the handle is mounted on framed doors.
