Ribbon: a ribbon flying on the door

Ribbon: a ribbon flying on the door by jie zhu from china

designer's own words:

The idea of“Ribbon”comes from a flying ribbon on the door. The “Ribbon” is also an extension derived from the surface of door. So it’s not solid, quiet and motionless, it’s with the expression of lightness and flying.

This time, I want to design an object that is contemporary, unique and also with feasibility on manufacturing.

Contemporary: In my mind, an object marked with “Contemporary” should be easy to understand, including the form, the shape, and the metaphor that designer used. I think everyone will instantly get the concept of “Ribbon” at the first glance. That is already half of success as a contemporary product.

Unique: Most of door handles nowadays have a similar structure——a lever is connected to the door by an axle. Whatever shape they are, the basic structure of door handle are very similar to others. “Ribbon” was trying to break this expression, so I designed the level as an extension from the surface of door, but not an object gruffly connected to the door.

Feasibility: the small cylinder bar on rotating axis offers the inside space for assembling and steady rotating structure by screw from the other side. In this way, it’s no necessary to change the common mechanism of door handle, even in the case of big difference on the appearance.
