design cucina: maria cristina didero + libby sellers share designers' culinary creations during lockdown

during the global lockdowns imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic — with many rummaging in kitchen pantries for daily inspiration — milan-based maria cristina didero and london-based libby sellers have launched design cucina sharing culinary stories from creatives around the world. published as a daily instagram post on the design cucina feed, the projects aims to encourage cooking creativity and positivity in these unprecedented times.

didero and sellers invited a select group of designers and friends to document the making of their favorite meal. contributors were given free reign on how to respond to the brief — from photographs, illustrations, and films of a finished meal, to a full set of ingredients with instructions and step-by-step documentation.

the idea behind design cucina is to simply to share and celebrate a sense of togetherness in virtually visiting the home kitchens of a friend or colleague each day. contributions came from designers, curators, editors, artists, fashion designers, ‘and most of all friends’, didero and sellers share. the list includes antonio aricò, erez nevi pana, formafantasma, michael young, sabine marcelis, and xavier lust among others. the results offer a diverse selection of global treats that continue to inspire, and culinary discoveries that demonstrate how staying home can sometimes be even better than going to a restaurant.
