working with UNIQLO’s brand philosophy of comfort and sustainable materials, VTN architects (vo trong nghia architects) emulates the qualities of a bird nest with the flagship installation. the design team aimed to generate the sense of protection and nurturing, offering a welcoming atmosphere across each level of the retail interior. smooth, curving surfaces are carefully curated to maintain views through to the shopping area while maintaining an element of exploration as viewers pass along the escalator.
the intricate surfaces of the design are generated with bamboo strips wrapped around elliptical steel frames and steel pipes structures. bamboo strips are woven one by one to the steel frames from the hands of local bamboo craftsmen for ten days of continuous hard work. bamboo installation art expresses the image of simplicity and ingenuity through the use of local materials and craftsmanship. moreover, it creates a connection between modern life and traditional vietnamese culture.
