steerism by zheyou au from malaysia
designer's own words:
in modern highly urbanized days, we tend to ignore minor parts of our environment. the best example is the door handle. we do open and close a number of doors in everyday life. in a single day, we would have opened and closed a door for how many times? but did anyone of us really notice the importance of a door handle to us? or did we merely ignore it, and did not give a thought to it?
this brand-new concept of door handle "steerism" is designed to cultivate people's awareness towards their surrounding environment. its unique and brand-new form makes users pause a while before opening a door, and notice the existence of the door handle. it gives interesting stimulation to our daily life. you would stop for a while and think of the way to open the door with this "steerism" door handle. it is an element of fun, even it is only a small part of our life. with this "steerism" door handle, i believe that our built environment will become a better place to live, work, and play.
this "steerism" door handle is made from brass. it is finished in a chrome finish. its smooth edges provide a smooth profile to this spiral shaped handle, and offer a comfortable gripping experience to users. this door handle is designed in such a way that users can use their creativity and imagination to think of a way to grip the handle and turn it.
"steerism" is definitely a no-miss for every door in the world!
(p/s: "steerism" and "turnism" are both brand-new concept door handles designed by me, and both are entries of this "hands on door handles" competition. they are developed in the same concept, therefore they share similar descriptions in terms of background and concept.)
