as human interaction and transportation have dramatically declined during the COVID-19 pandemic, there are signs that the natural world has reawaken and begun to heal, especially in urban environments. like the dolphins that have returned to sardinia or the swans now floating along the clear waters of venice’s canals, the ideas of cohabiting with wildlife and sustainable living have also reawakened and grown as we look towards what the ‘new normal’ could be in the future. as one realized solution, the nuvolari lenard thunder takes a more sustainable spin on the classic venice water taxi. its technology has been designed to help preserve the historic city and its ecosystem.

in the aim of minimizing its environmental impact, the nuvolari lenard thunder is a green luxury watercraft. when at low speeds in the canals of venice, the vessel will run solely on stored electric battery. however, when outside the city such as during the high speed journeys to and from the airport, it will be powered by a diesel engine on open water. this will give the batteries time to recharge.

the boat’s modern technologies are embedded within a traditional aesthetic. its elegant, classic lines – all crafted from wood – mirror the shape and style of the classic water taxis of venice. the new design, though, is 9.2-meters long and economically fits up to 14 passengers per ride. the nuvolari lenard taxi can also double as a limousine tender for superyachts, when needed.
